Spotlight on Two Amazing Volunteers

Mr. Bill Davis was honored by the Sherman Senior Center when he came to pick up his meals to deliver for his Meals on Wheels route in Sherman.  Mr. Davis, who has been  delivering meals to seniors for about 15 years turned 90 January 3rd.  He delivers four times a week and says the he does this because he likes helping other people. Although he is older than all but one person on his route, he never complains and rarely misses a day for his opportunity to deliver a hot meal and

a smile to a person in need.

Mr. Harry Steel in Denison may be our most seasoned volunteer at the young at heart age of 97.  He has been delivering meals weekly just about ever since the center opened.  Mr. Steel shows what it means to truly care about the  members of his community.  He knows that the seniors not only rely on him to bring them food and companionship, but to make sure they are physically ok.

Gainesville Senior Nutrition Center Gets New Building

January has been a very good start to the New Year for the community and seniors in Gainesville.  Cooke County United Way and other community  leaders have found the funds needed to get a permanent building for the senior nutrition program combined with a Cooke County Senior Center.

The summer floods rendered the previous building useless.  The First Christian Church in Gainesville generously housed the program until this dream was made a reality.  Remodeling will take a while, but with the help of donated funds, donated items and volunteer time, the work will be done as quickly as possible.

If you wish to volunteer and/or donate to help this marvelous community    project, please contact Debbie Mini at 904-668-6667 or John Padgham at  940-665-3165
